City Corrects Road Oversight

Posted

Several property owners could have installed a toll booth along Springhill Road during the last 50 years because a portion of the street hasn't been deeded over to the city since 1956. That detail was taken care of during Thursday's Warsaw Board of Works meeting.

Phil Harris currently owns the property at 1524 Springhill Road, which included a portion of the street. Harris agreed to the quit claim deed, turning the road over to the city.

In other business, the board:

• Approved the purchase of a 10-foot utility easement for $3,000 from Randal and Cheryl Murphy.

• Agreed to an extension electrical services by NIPSCO at a rate of $802.80 per year for two years and $401.40 for the last one-half year. The service is for the office trailer at the Warsaw wastewater facility on Center Street.

• Approved a change order for $4,500 as requested by Jones & Henry Engineers to install silt fencing along the sewer trench north and west of the Pentecostal Church, where a sewage interceptor line is being installed.

• Heard the parks department will receive a $3,392 grant for summer concerts from the St. Joseph County Community Foundation.

• Approved a garbage truck purchase for the Parks Department of $26,850, a quote given by River City Truck and Equipment, New Haven. Other bids were from Pyramid Equipment Inc., Rolling Prairie, $28,900, and from Deeds Equipment Co., Plymouth, $29,700.

• Heard the police department will receive a grant from the Bulletproof Vest Partnership in the amount of $2,470.54, a 50 percent match.

• Approved travel requests by Jackie Treft and Brad Kellar.

• Heard from Mark Farner, the voice of Grand Funk Railroad, thanking city personnel for their hospitality during the recent appearance of Farner and his band.

Board of Works members are Mayor Ernie Wiggins, Jerry Patterson and Charlie Smith.
