Editor, Times-Union: As a subscriber to the Times-Union, I was greatly disappointed that the letter that I wrote to the editor, several months ago (election time) was left out of the paper. I sincerely hope this post will be posted in the Times-Union No matter what my standing is, Democrat or Republican, I feel that I have the right to speak and be heard. I do not live in Warsaw, however, I believe that if this bill goes through, it will be a matter of time before it is enforced to other communities. The "right" that you have to come into my home concerns me, as a law-abiding citizen. The fact that you have all these stipulations is also a concern of mine. Coming from a farm background and living in an older farm house also hugely concerns me. We lived in a clean, well-kept farm home. We did not have a closet. We had one bathroom. I doubt very much that our home would have "approved" your new ordinances concerning the amount of square footage per individual. What are your plans for all the beautiful homes in Winona Lake that are made of cinder blocks? Surely these don't meet your codes; especially if they have been painted in the past. Personally, I love to drive through that area and see the history of Winona. Do you want to take that away? What about the families, in these economic times, to add square footage to an older home? How is this possible? I sincerely hope and am praying that the “leaders” that be would consider this change and how it will effect so very many that live in the Warsaw community. I hate to throw these words out, but, this proposed law reminds me of socialism and communism. Don't we have the right to live as we choose in America, as long as it is not harming our neighbors? Perhaps your efforts may be well spent in focusing in on all the meth labs that our in the city. Perhaps this is the way to clean up Warsaw and leave the well-intended homeowners free from socialism.
