Robinson Construction, Warsaw, was selected to renovate the former NIPSCO building into police headquarters at a special meeting of the Warsaw Board of Works Monday.
Scott R. Rozanski recommended the company as lowest bidder. He is an architect for Ken Herceg and Associates, South Bend, the company serving as engineers for the work.
The facility is behind the East Center Street Owen's Supermarket and faces Fort Wayne Street.
It was purchased for $517,000 by the city last year and will be the new police department. Work on the garage facilities there is substantially complete.
Demolition and renovation costs to the building were bid at a price of $50,400. The project includes removing asbestos, plaster, an old boiler, wiring and plumbing. This phase of the project should take up to five weeks for completion once notice to proceed is granted.
Renovation and remodeling costs were given as $710,025 and will take about eight months to complete.
Board of works members are Mayor Ernie Wiggins, Jerry Patterson and Charlie Smith.
Because of a conflict of interest, Wiggins abstained from voting for Robinson, while Patterson and Smith approved the company for the work.
The next board of works meeting is set for Aug. 17 at 11:30 a.m. and Rozanski said contracts will be available then.
City planner Jeff Noffsinger gave an update on the leg of the Lake City Greenway from Pike Lake to Kosciusko Community Hospital.
Plans are to purchase 28 acres, Noffsinger said, and a price has been verbally accepted by the owners.
Kosciusko County Foundation will provide funding for the purchase, Noffsinger said.
The Greenway development costs are being raised through private donations and various grants.
