City Bow Opens Outfall Bids

Bids were opened during Warsaw's Board of Works meeting Friday to evaluate prices for a project which would relocate the northern waste water treatment plant's outfall area.

Treated water currently flows into the Tippecanoe River, and department head Dave Henderson said the outfall's relocation would prevent a hazardous environment for the club shell mussel, an endangered species living in the area.

The bid prices for the project ranged from $248,775 to $322,930. A board decision will now take all bids under consideration and make a decision on the matter at a later date.

One bid that was approved by the board involved a purchase agreement between the street department and Hill Truck Sales Inc. The city will purchase three dump trucks from the company for a total cost of $215,745.

Also in Street Department matters, Jones and Henry Engineers were awarded a $179,200 contract for a storm sewer rehabilitation project.

In other issues, a contract with Buckingham Music Ltd was approved, allowing the Parks Department to gain another musical group to perform during the Classic Rock Festival to be held in Central Park June 16.

Mayor Ernie Wiggins voted to approve a $100,000 contract agreement with Wayne Township for fire department services, though he expressed concern over the deduction of funds paid from previous years.

"We'll have some discussions on this matter in the future. Our costs for services keep going up and funding is being decreased because of budget constraints," Wiggins said. "This is a bit problematic for me."

The board also:

• Approved a $2,800 Oakwood Cemetery contract with Churchill-Landscape for the installation of boxwood shrubs in the cremation gardens.

• Approved two Police Department preapplications for VOCA and STOP grants.

An additional grant through the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute will be allowed, which could help fund the department's purchase of in-car video systems for patrol vehicles.

• Approved two taxi permits, which will be awarded to David Cesaretti and Tye Lisenbee.

• Approved a deed of dedication of right of way following roadway improvements to areas of Pheasant Ridge subdivision.

The city will now be responsible for all property detailed within the dedication.

• Approved the re-hiring of Marie Tutorow to the Parks Department. Her start date will begin Feb. 6.

Board members present for Friday's meeting were Wiggins and Jerry Patterson. Charlie Smith was absent.
