Travel and trips were the big ticket items approved by the Warsaw Board of Works today.
The board approved a $12,000 contract with Kosciusko Area Bus Service to provide the city's public transportation for 1999.
ALso approved was a $1,200 travel request by city planner Jeff Noffsinger to attend two conferences in Charlotte, N.C., March 22-26. The conferences will cost $690 and lodging $510. Noffsinger will use his city-provided vehicle.
In other business, the board approved a one-time legal services contract with Warsaw attorney William Dalton to pursue collection of a $4,000 sewer debt from GoKal Inc., doing business as Days Inn. The company is represented by Valentine's private law partnership. Dalton's contract is for $125 per hour.
The board approved contract requests by the parks department for two music groups to perform in the 1999 Performing Arts Series. The bluegrass band Homespun will receive $300 for a July 16 performance. The group Little Big Band will receive $225 for their Aug. 20 performance.
The board also approved a special purchase request by the Warsaw Fire Department to buy a special firefighting tool for $256 for Firefighter Mark Howard. The sum will come from Howard's clothing allowance.
Fire Chief Kenneth Shepherd announced Mike Rice will not serve as department training officer for the department. A replacement is being sought, Shepherd said.
