City Approves Airport Hangar Sale

Warsaw City Council approved selling Warsaw Municipal Airport Hangar #2 Tuesday night.
The council unanimously approved an ordinance for the sale with Jeff Grose, councilman, making the motion, seconded by Elaine Call, councilwoman.
Council President Diane Quance was absent from the meeting.
City Attorney Mike Valentine said David Beall, who resigned from the airport manager position due to health reasons, but still is employed at the airport, approached him about selling Hangar #2.
Linda Seiss is serving as acting airport manager.
Valentine said Beall informed him the airport has received bids for the sale of the hangar already. The city needed to approve an ordinance for the sale of the hangar.
Jay Rigdon, Warsaw Board of Aviation Commissioners president, said the general philosophy of the airport board is that they are trying to get out of the hangar ownership business.
“Rather than spend a lot of time worrying about the sales, we put it out for the bid process and we can stop paying insurance on it and put property value back into the property, as opposed to no tax benefit,” Rigdon said.
Charlie Smith, city councilman, asked if roofing was a problem for the hangar.
Rigdon said the roofing repair estimate would cost as much as if not more than the appraised value of the building.
Rigdon said the bidder has expressed interest in putting time into replacing the roof.
“I’d rather have the private sector put money into it than have us put public money into it,” Rigdon said.
Warsaw Board of Aviation Commissioners voted unanimously to sell the hangar.
