Warsaw's mayor, clerk-treasurer and city council members will receive salary increases next year, the council approved Tuesday.
Annual salaries will increase 3 percent, not to exceed: mayor, $56,737; clerk-treasurer, $47,996; and council members, $4,780 each.
Tuesday's meeting was the second and final reading of the salary ordinance. Councilmen Bill Rhoades and Jeff Grose voted against the ordinance; councilmen Charlie Smith, Joe Thallemer, Jerry Patterson, Bob Morrison and George Clemens voted for the salary increase.
The council also approved more than $1 million in 2005 budget cuts that were proposed at a meeting last week.
The cuts include: $319,975 from the street department; $223,458 from the council budget; $149,558 from building and planning; $115,534 from the police department and $128,800 from police department pension; $25,000 from the fire department and $60,000 from fire department pension; $61,000 from parks and recreation; $13,500 from aviation; $11,900 from Oakwood Cemetery; $5,500 from the clerk-treasurer's office; $3,500 from the mayor's budget; and $1,000 from human resources.
The council also:
Approved annexing a 40-acre tract of property at the intersection of CR 75N and CR 175E. The property, owned by Matthew and Sarah Fluke, will be zoned residential.
Transferred $1,000 from the police salary fund to the unemployment fund.
Thanked city planner Jeff Noffsinger for his service to Warsaw and wished him luck on his new position as town manager for Syracuse.
"Syracuse is getting an asset, and we're going to miss him, but at least I know where to find him," Mayor Ernie Wiggins said.
The council will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday for the first reading on the adoption of the budget. Two readings are required before the budget is adopted.
