SYRACUSE -ÊSyracuse has a new town marshal.

Tony Ciriello will take over duties as Syracuse town marshal beginning Aug. 8. The Syracuse town council approved Ciriello's appointment by a 3-0 vote Tuesday morning in a special meeting.

"I am looking forward to continuing my law enforcement career and expanding my career," said Ciriello. "I am very honored that the town of Syracuse has chosen me for a leadership role in their town."

"We were looking for somebody to bring leadership to the table, a good communicator," said Syracuse Town Manager Jeff Noffsinger.

"He will work with the resources available to him. Tony is familiar with the community and the issues in our community with crime."

Ciriello was chosen from 14 candidates who applied for the position. He has been employed with the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department since 1998 and has been a deputy coroner since 1993. He currently is a sergeant with the Kosciusko County Drug Task Force.

"I would like to thank the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department and the Kosciusko County government for having the opportunity to serve for the past 18 years and for all their support in my law enforcement career," said Ciriello.

Ciriello will work with seven full-time officers, along with a secretary, an animal control officer and dispatchers.

Ciriello lives in Milford with his wife Jane and three children, Josh, Justin and Chloe. He also has two daughters, Alyssa and Brandi Ciriello, who live in Warsaw.
