More than $2,600 was raised for the United Way during Bowen Center's annual dodgeball tournament Thursday.
The Chore-Time team from Milford won the event.
The money raised is a record amount raised for the United Way in one night. This is the fourth year for the dodgeball event.
Sixteen teams from area businesses competed in the "county championship" event.Zimmer had won the dodgeball crown for the past two years. Thursday, however, Medtronic knocked Zimmer out of the competition in the first round of play. With 3 seconds left on the clock, a Medtronic player threw the ball that knocked out the final Zimmer player, giving Medtronic the unexpected win. The crowd went crazy.
As play continued, four teams remained: Rohman Haas Powder Coating, Chore-Time, Lake City Bank and Brock.
Balls kept flying until the competition came down to two Milford teams - Chore-Time versus Brock. When the dust settled, Chore-Time came out on top as the new dodgeball county champs.
Event coordinator Tim Nussbaum, representing the Bowen Center, said, "We ended up with the 'Miracle from Milford' with those two teams battling it out. What a game!"
Other team awards were handed out at the event.
The best dressed team award went to Medtronic, with the team spirit award going to Black Concrete and Construction. This was the first year Black Concrete and Construction participated in the event.
WRSW covered the event live.
"Just when you thought it couldn't get any better, you wait until you see what we do for next year," said Nussbaum.
