WINONA LAKE – The 2014-15 season of the Lakeland Community Concert Association comes to a close March 27 with a performance by Cornet Chop Suey at 7:30 p.m. at Rodeheaver Auditorium.
The jazz band “has enjoyed a meteoric rise in popularity since its arrival on the jazz scene in 2001. Best known for a wide variety of styles, Cornet Chop Suey applies its own exciting style to traditional jazz, swing, blues and ‘big production’ numbers. Every performance by Cornet Chop Suey is a high-energy presentation and is always a memorable experience for the audience,” according to information from LCCA.
Individual concert tickets are $20 at the door.
Subscriptions for all of the shows in the 2015-16 season are $45, a savings of $55. Children 18 years old and younger may attend free when accompanied by an adult family member. A 10-percent discount is available for groups of 20 or more people.
New LCCA concert subscribers will get the March 27 event free with the purchase of the 2015-16 season ticket. That’s six shows for the price of five.
Next season starts with Gospel harpist Greg Buchanan at 7 p.m. Oct. 3. Buchanan is a “world-class harpist whose aggressive style of playing usually redefines the listener’s concept of performance on the harp. Greg is not just a musician, he is a true artist,” according to the release from LCCA.
Two weeks later on Oct. 18 at 2 p.m., the Purdue Glee Club performs.
“With integrity, passion, unparalleled showmanship and attention to every detail, the men of the Purdue Varsity Glee Club have proudly served as ambassadors of the university with honor and dignity for more than 120 years,” LCCA’s information states.
This musical troupe employs a versatile repertoire including gospel, vocal jazz, swing, contemporary hits, romantic ballads, classical choral selections, barbershop, folk melodies, patriotic standards, familiar opera choruses, country and novelty tunes. It uses small groups and soloists to enhance each show.
Broadway singer Franc D’Ambrosio will take the stage at 7 p.m. Nov. 14. He is best known for his role as the Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “The Phantom of the Opera.” According to information provided, with over 2,300 performances, he held the title of “World’s Longest Running Phantom” for a decade. He also studied under Luciano Pavarotti for a summer in Italy.

Performing its 67th season, the orchestra has been part of Fort Wayne’s musical heritage continuously since it debuted in October 1944. It expanded its concert programming in the 1945-46 season. Its 480 orchestra and chamber ensemble performances are attended by more than 220,000 people, according to information provided.
