This election year there are so many issues confronting us as a country. With only two candidates to choose from, how can we vote for all our values?
If you vote Republican, you are voting pro-life. However, you are also voting for foreign policy hawks who have taken us into an awful and unjust war, and you are voting to continue an unjust tax code that places a higher burden on the middle class.
On the other hand, if you vote Democratic, you are voting for a change to foreign policy, a change in tax breaks from the wealthy to the middle class, but you are also voting pro-choice.
Also, as Americans, the choice we make in November will have consequences on the rest of the world, as well as at home. How do we consider issues such as global poverty and disease, human rights, religious freedoms, and stewardship of God's creation when we make our decisions in November?
There may not be a candidate that is a perfect fit with all of our values, but let's try to consider all the important issues at hand and pick the best one.
I have decided to vote for Obama and not because I embrace all his views. But in the list of current and critical issues, I believe he is the best choice. I know others will choose McCain for the same reasons. I am just appealing that we vote based on all of our values, not on a single issue.
