Homeowners were able to keep a chimney fire contained Tuesday night until firefighters were able to arrive and put it out.
Warsaw Fire Department was dispatched at 9:20 p.m. Tuesday to a chimney fire at 1038 W. CR 200S, Warsaw.
Kosciusko County records indicate the homeowners are Bobby R. and Cecilla E. Vickers. WFD Public Information Officer Max Kinsey said the homeowners said they were in the living room when they noticed smoke, but the smoke didn’t set off the smoke detector.
One person went outside with a fire extinguisher and kept the fire in check until the fire department arrived. There was a fire in the wall around the chimney, according to an officer on scene.
The cause of fire is accidental, according to Kinsey. About 20 fire department personnel were on scene until 11:23 p.m., and the Winona Lake Fire Department assisted. There were no injuries. Damage was estimated at $18,000, Kinsey reported.
