Child's Overdose Leads To Charges

CLAYPOOL - More than a month after the incident occurred, details have been released in what appears to be the overdose of a 2-year-old boy.

Cameron Booher, who recently turned 3, is currently at the rehabilitation center at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.According to a report made available this morning by the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, a member of Kosciusko Community Hospital staff called police around 12:18 p.m. Jan. 30 in regards to a 2-year-old boy who was being airlifted to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.

When the child got to Riley, he was put on life support and was listed in critical condition. Doctors at Riley initially believed symptoms were consistent with a tear in an artery leading to the boy's cerebellum.

But test results came back confirming that the boy tested positive for both methadone and oxycodene.

On Feb. 9, the child was taken off a ventilator, and the next day a welfare hearing was held with the boy's father, Adam Wayne Booher, 1670 E. CR 700S, Claypool, who was watching him at the time of the alleged overdose.

After the welfare hearing, the report at KCSD stated the father refused to talk to police and directed them to his attorney.

A week after the hearing on Feb. 17, the child was moved out of the Intensive Care Unit at Riley to Methodist Hospital.

When the child originally suffered the overdose, he was taken to KCH rather than 911 being called, so there was no record of the incident in dispatch calls.

Charges of neglect of a dependent child causing serious bodily injury, as well as battery of a person under the age of 14 by a person over the age of 18, have been filed against the child's father.

Both charges are Class B felonies.
