Children Testify In Anglin Trial

Posted

Two children testified Tuesday in the child molestation trial of Larry Anglin, 60.

Anglin's stepdaughter, 10, and stepson, 9, both testified that between Jan. 1, 1999, and Sept. 17, 2002, they were sexually abused by Anglin.

Anglin is married to the children's mother and allegedly abused them while they were on weekend visits to her home. According to testimony, the abuse happened when the mother was sleeping or away.

Anglin is charged with five Class A child molestation felonies - one for having sexual intercourse with a child under age 14 while he was over age 21 and four for deviate sexual conduct with children under age 14 while he was over 21.

Under Indiana law, deviate sexual conduct involves penetration and oral sex.

Allegedly, Anglin performed and forced both children to perform oral sex on him. He also is accused of having intercourse with the girl.

Two Class C felony charges are for alleged fondling of both children.

The girl, in testimony, told the jury Anglin had repeatedly abused her. She was 9 and her brother 8 at the time of the alleged abuse.

According to the girl, the abuse happened more than 10 times and intercourse took place more than once, but she couldn't remember how many times.

She said the alleged abuse took place in her bedroom at her mother's house and in the living room when her mother was sleeping.

During the defense's cross-examination, Anglin's attorney, Jay Rigdon, asked the girl if she could remember the last time Anglin had abused her. She said she couldn't.

Rigdon also asked if someone had told her to tell people her step-father was abusing her. The girl answered "yes," then explained her grandmother and father had asked her to tell them what was going on at her mother and stepfather's house.

When first asked if something was going on, the girl wrote what was happening on a piece of paper. The paper was placed in a sealed envelope. It was introduced into evidence Tuesday.

The boy testified that Anglin had, multiple times, forced the boy to touch Anglin's penis with his hands and mouth.

He said Anglin also had touched him with hands and mouth.

After telling prosecuting attorney Christanne C. Hampton about the abuse, Hampton asked the boy what he said.

"I said, 'Please do not do that,'" the boy answered.

The boy also testified that the alleged abuse happened "most of the time" when he visited his mother. He said it occurred in his bedroom and in the living room of his mother's Warsaw residence.

Anglin's trial is held in Kosciusko Circuit Court with special judge Michael D. Cook, Marshall County, presiding.
