Charges of child neglect are pending against parents in two separate cases from weekend incidents.
A Warsaw woman also faces charges of refusing to submit to chemical testing, public intoxication and resisting/fleeing law enforcement in connection with her Saturday arrest.
According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department report, Cheryl L. Kenjockety, also known as Cheryl Nolte, 35, of 3492 S. CR 350E, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail after allegedly passing out while driving on CR 350E, south of Pierceton Road, and running her car into a field. She had two children in the car with her at the time of the incident.
When police arrived at the scene, Kenjockety was reportedly having difficulty standing and then fell over. She allegedly fought their attempts to help her get up. Officers noted Kenjockety smelled strongly of alcohol and, when they attempted to handcuff her, she reportedly began swinging her arms and would not cooperate with being taken into custody.
Kenjockety was placed into a squad car lying down and had to have her legs restrained, too, because she reportedly kept kicking the back of the front seat of the squad car.
A 911 call placed in regard to the incident at 5:17 p.m. Saturday came from a passerby who thought there was a car accident, and the caller said one person was unconscious. Kenjockety's 8-year-old and 3-year-old children were in the car with her when she reportedly ran off the road and got stuck in deep snow. Neither child was injured.
The children were turned over to Kenjockety's boyfriend, who was brought to the scene by a neighbor.
In the other alleged neglect incident, 26-year-old Javier Juarez Malagon of 1202 Wooster Road, Winona Lake, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail Sunday afternoon on a charge of neglect of a dependent after Warsaw police found Malagon's 2-year-old son alone in an unlocked, running vehicle in the Lake Village Shopping Center parking lot.
Malagon reportedly told police the child was only in the car about five minutes, but police said more than 20 minutes elapsed from the time the call came in until Malagon was located. The child, who apparently got out of his car seat, was found "tightly wedged" between the front and back seat face down on a blanket and crying, according to a police report.
The father reportedly told police he went to get a haircut and didn't want to take the child inside with him because the toddler had a cold and there was too much hair on the floor.
The child was placed in foster care by the welfare department and a meeting was set up with the mother for today.
Both Kenjockety and Malagon are being held without bond.
