Editor, Times-Union: Did you know that every year about 22,000 children around the world die in work-related accidents? Or that there are 126 million child slaves worldwide, 73 million of them under the age of 10? In the least-developed countries around the world, up to 30 percent of children are involved in child labor.
Every day these children work in unbearable conditions. They don’t work for pay; they live in terrible conditions; they barely eat; and they are separated from their families. Something needs to be done to help these innocent, helpless children that have been robbed of their childhoods.
I want to raise awareness about the child slavery happening around the world. After raising awareness I would like to raise money. From there I would like to donate the money to a charity that would help advocate how wrong child slavery is and how big of a problem it is. The problem is growing and more children are losing their childhoods.
If you are asking yourself what you can do to help the cause, you can educate yourself and spread the word. Donate money to charities and help that way. Just get involved.
