Child Hurt in Train-Truck Crash

A 10-year-old passenger suffered serious leg injuries after a train struck the truck she was riding in Saturday afternoon.
According to a Warsaw Police Department crash report, the driver of the truck – Kelsie E. Music, 20, East CR 400N, Warsaw, was traveling west on Market Street in Warsaw around 2 p.m. Saturday and approached the railroad crossing on Hickory Street when her 2-year-old baby began to cry in the back seat. The report stated that Music looked up into the rearview mirror to check on the baby and did not hear the southbound train approaching on the tracks. Music continued to travel west on Market Street and into the path of the train.
The train engineer stated he sounded the horn as he approached the crossing, and as he went through the crossing saw Music’s vehicle spin around as he impacted it.
A witness stated that he heard the train sound the horn and he looked up to see Music’s vehicle pull into the train’s path.
Warsaw/Wayne Township Fire Territory Chief Mike Brubaker said Music and her three passengers were already out of the vehicle when the department arrived and no extrication was needed.
Music complained of pain to her entire body; passenger Alexis Music, 12, East CR 100S, Pierceton, complained of chest pain; passenger Alissa Music, 10, East CR 100S, Pierceton, suffered a fractured lower leg; and passenger Ruby Music, 2 years old, East CR 100S, Pierceton, suffered minor bleeding. According to the report, all were treated immediately at the scene by Multi-Township EMS, though it was not known at the time of publication if any but the 10-year-old passenger were hospitalized.
The train carried three engines and 48 cars and was reportedly traveling 21 mph at the time of impact.
