NORTH WEBSTER - A child bicyclist was seriously injured Monday night in North Webster after she was hit by an SUV.
According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office crash report, at around 7:20 p.m. Monday a gray 2018 Volvo XC60 SUV, driven by Aaron Bowers, 31, Indianapolis, was traveling west on Epworth Forest Road in the area of North Hoss Hill Road. As the SUV passed Hoss Hill Road, Bowers noticed a person on a bicycle in the roadway and attempted to stop, but was unsuccessful. The SUV hit the 9-year-old female bicyclist with the left front corner of the SUV, causing damage to the vehicle and serious injury to the bicyclist.
The girl was flown to Parkview Regional Hospital, Fort Wayne, by Lutheran Air 2 for immediate medical treatment, the report states.
Bowers was checked out on scene but did not have any injuries. He was read the Indiana Implied Consent Warning and agreed to a certified test. He was taken to Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital, Warsaw, for a voluntary blood draw with results pending.
The SUV was towed by Crouse Towing to Crouse for investigative reasons and was secured.
The investigation was taken over by the Kosciusko County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team.
