NAPPANEE – Cheryl A. Gonzalez, 57, of 500 Short St.,  Nappanee, died at 8:05 p.m. March 9, 2012, in her residence, after a long illness.

She was born Nov. 13, 1954, in Gary, to George C. and Betty Hyde Sowards. On March 7, 1975, she married Daniel V. Gonzalez, who survives.

She was a graduate of Merrillville High School and attended Compton University, Long Beach, Calif. She moved to Nappanee in 1991. She had been a preschool teacher for the Nappanee Head Start program. She was a member of United Pentecostal Church of Acts 4&12,  Bremen.

Also surviving are three sons: Don C. Gonzalez (and fiance Melissa), Lakeville; Mark A. Gonzalez, Richmond, Va.; and James P. Gonzalez, Nappanee; three grandchildren; and three sisters: Susan (and spouse Glen) Hochstetler, Nappanee; Cindy (and spouse Joe) Lynn, Bremen; and Mary Robbins, Wakarusa. She was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at United Pentecostal Church of Acts 4&12, Bremen, with Pastor John Bollinger officiating. Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
