A Nappanee man is in stable condition at Kosciusko Community Hospital this morning after a police pursuit that ended in a one-vehicle crash on Sullivan Road.
Chris Skinner, 19, of Nappanee, suffered leg and facial injuries after the 1998 Ford Ranger he was driving crashed into a tree.
According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, an officer tried to stop a black 1988 Ford Ranger for speeding on Armstrong Road around 9:50 p.m. The pickup continued at a high rate of speed and turned onto Sullivan Road, heading south. The officer followed.
Police believe Sullivan lost control of the truck and hit a tree while trying to negotiate a curve on Sullivan Road. After hitting the tree, the pickup caught fire. When the officer arrived at the scene of the crash, he extinguished the blaze and freed Sullivan from the vehicle.
The accident remains under investigation and toxicology tests are pending.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department was assisted at the scene by the North Webster Fire Department, North Webster EMS and North Webster Police Department.
