Charles Wayne Gibson, Warsaw, went home to be with the Lord at 8:40 p.m. July 1, 2016, at Kosciusko Community Hospital.
He fought a long and hard battle against leukemia; he fought this battle with courage, pride, honor and lots of love and support.
He was born June 11, 1951, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to Richard and Aggie Poe Gibson. He was married to Renee Laurino Gibson for 31 years, and she survives in Warsaw.
He honorably served his country in United States Marine Corps from 1969 to 1972, being discharged as a corporal (E-4). He then enlisted in the Indiana National Guard in 1981 and held the rank of sergeant first class at the time of his retirement in 1997. He was a mentor, father figure and teacher to many others.
Also surviving are two children, Kevin and Carlie Gibson, Warsaw; a beloved granddaughter, Adalyn “Gracie” Gibson, Warsaw; three sisters: Becky (and spouse Gary) Krotke, Laketon; Joyce (and spouse Carl) Arnett, Pierceton; Dottie (and spouse Bill) Teeter, North Manchester; mother-in-law, Mary Lou Laurino, Warsaw; father-in-law, Sammie Vickers, Warsaw; best friends, Alan and Deb Johnson, Warsaw; eight brothers and sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with Pastor Donald R. Gibson officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military rites rendered by the Warsaw American Legion Post 49, VFW Post 1126 and the Marine Corps Funeral Honor Guard.
Calling is one hour prior to services Friday and from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel.
