Charles Shepherd, 89, Warsaw, died at 5:50 p.m. May 10, 2009, at Warsaw Meadows.
He was born March 13, 1920, in Breathitt County, Ky., to Abe and Vina Vanderpool Shepherd. He married Virginia Dotson, who died September 1987.
He was a full-time farmer in Pierceton and Bloomfield. He was an avid bluegrass music fan and personal friend of Ralph Stanley and family and Ricky Scaggs and families. He lived in Warsaw for five years, coming from Bloomfield.
Surviving are a daughter, Bonnie Stevens, Warsaw; two grandchildren, Charles (and spouse Crystal) Shafer, Columbia City, and Kimberly Masura, Warsaw; six great-grandchildren, Nathan, Cole, Joe, Julia, Megan and Ashley; a great-great-granddaughter, Lilly; a brother, Claude (and spouse Martha) Shepherd, Warsaw; and a sister, Jean Wolfe, Warsaw. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Wayne Shepherd, who died Nov. 5, 1990; Clyde Shepherd, who died Nov. 2, 1989; and Alex Shepherd, who died Feb. 24, 1989; and a sister, Myrtle Yonts Dicks, who died June 15, 2003.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, with the Rev. Ralph Dotson, Full Gospel Tabernacle of Claypool, officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, Claypool.
