HARRODSBURG, Ky. - Charles Preston "Charlie" Crews, 97, of Harrodsburg, Ky., and formerly of Warsaw, died Feb. 16, 2010, at the V.A. Medical Center, Lexington, Ky.

He was born Dec. 28, 1912, in Harrodsburg, to Wilkes Morgan and Edna Lyen Sharp Crews.

He was a horse trainer for Calumet, Castlemon and retired from Shawnee Farms and was a member of Eller's Memorial Baptist Church. A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of the 34th Division, which was the first unit deployed to Europe. He served 46 months overseas. He received several awards and medals, one being the Purple Heart. He was also a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign War and the American Legion.

Surviving are two nieces, including Nancy Crews Parriott Dougan, Winona Lake. He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel, Harrodsburg, with Kenneth Whitehouse officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg.

Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
