SAN JOSE, Calif. – Charles Hartman, 75, formerly of Juniper Avenue, Boulder, Colo., passed away March 26, 2013. He was born Feb. 18, 1938, in Warsaw, to Everett and Ruth Hartman. In 1960, he married ZoAnn Sleighter, who survives. They divorced in 1972. In 1997, he married Margaret Sacksteder, who survives. He was well known to residents of Boulder as a teacher at Baseline Junior High, presenter of travel films, volunteer usher at the Chautauqua Concert Series and a frequent of Fred’s Place on Pearl Avenue Mall. He was an only child growing up but spent considerable time with his cousins Sandra Allen, Tom Hartman, John McCarter and Jim Van Horne. He attended Warsaw High School, where he met ZoAnn, and both attended Indiana University, where they studied teaching. They lived in Indiana where he taught at Warsaw High School from 1961-63 and Columbus High School from 1963-70, when they moved to Boulder. He taught at Baseline Junior High from 1970-86, when he began his second career as an independent travel filmmaker. He filmed, edited and presented travel films in person. He took great pride in the classical music he selected for the soundtracks. His slide shows include “The Oregon Trail” and “10 Speeds across America” and his films included “Route 66,” “Eastern Europe,” “Austria,” “Royal England,” “Norway,” “Switzerland,” “Poland” and, of course, “Colorado.” He met Margaret when they were both teachers at Baseline Junior High. They traveled together during the filming of his most recent travelogues. He loved music, travel, sailing, bicycling, photography and ice cream. Also surviving are a son, Steven, and three grandchildren. Lima Family Mortuary, San Jose, Calif., is in charge of arrangements.
