ARGOS – Charles Ernest Welborn, 82, of 15710 Michigan Road, Argos, died at 10:45 a.m. Nov. 22, 2014, at his residence following a short illness.
He was born Feb. 16, 1932, in Bourbon, to Virgil G. and Hazel B. Austin Welborn. On June 22, 1952, in South Bend, he married Marilyn Sue Grubbs, his wife of 62 years, who survives in Argos.
He had lived in the Argos community since 1967, and in Marshall County all of his life. He was the owner of Gen-Tech Farm Seed in Argos since 1972, having farmed prior to that. He was a graduate of Bourbon High School class of 1950, and was the valedictorian of his class.
He and Marilyn attended the Cross Church in Rochester. He was a faithful supporter of Jerry Falwell, the Thomas Road Baptist Church and Liberty University, Lynchburg, Va.
Also surviving are three daughters: Anne Welborn, Mishawaka; Mindy (and spouse Lyndon) Bailey, Argos; and Susan (and spouse Howard) Lyons, Tucson, Ariz.; two sons, Thomas Welborn, Plymouth, and Jon (and spouse Raquel) Welborn, Dallas, Ga.; 15 grandchildren: Mandy (and spouse Andy) Nifong; Scott (and spouse Mandy) Bailey; Chad (and spouse Kylie) Bailey; Alyssa (and spouse Mark) Hoffman; Allyson (and spouse Denver) Green; Emmalee Lyons; Kaylyn (and spouse Cody) Jayroe; Erin (and spouse Andrew) Hymans; Laura Milliser; Lisa (and spouse Jake) Bringham; Nick, Brandon, Enrico, Jose and Selena Welborn; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary Bernaert and Lucille Peckman; and six brothers, Carl, Glen, John, David, LeRoy and Everett Welborn.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Crossroad Church, 1650 N. Oak Drive, Plymouth, with the Revs. John Branch, Martin Furrow and Rob Mace officiating. Burial is in Union Cemetery, Plymouth.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Earl-Grossman Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos, and an hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
