Charles E. Lane, 87, of Warsaw, died at 1:20 p.m. Dec. 7, 2008, in Mason Health and Rehab, Warsaw.
He was born Jan. 28, 1921, in Tefft, to Jack and Jules Blue Lane. On Jan. 23, 1960, in Warsaw, he married Gloria Tousinsky, who died Feb. 14, 1997.
Living most of his life in the Warsaw area, he was a self-employed Millwright for 40 years and was a member of Warsaw Millwright Local 1029. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and found great joy in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He entered the U.S. Army on Dec. 12, 1942, serving in World War II, and honorably discharged Dec. 16, 1945, as a sergeant in the Signal Corp.
Surviving are a son, John C. Lane, Warsaw; a stepson, Gary McGinnis, Fort Wayne; a stepdaughter, Linda (and spouse John) Nuechterlein, Fort Wayne; three grandchildren: Stephen (and spouse Kristi) Nuechterlein, Fort Wayne; J. Ryan (and spouse Chrissy) Nuechterlein, St. Louis, Mo.; and Ian Nuechterlein, Madison, Wis.; two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Dakota Nuechterlein, at home; two sisters, Marjorie Spragus and Joanne Gilbert, both of Parker City; two brothers, Lannie (and spouse Sue) Lane, Warsaw, and Max (and spouse Betty) Lane, Horn Lake, Miss.; and a sister-in-law, Frankie Lane, Warsaw. He was preceded in death by a brother, Benny Bud Lane, who died Aug. 28, 1968, and two brothers-in-law, Lou Spragus and Dick Gilbert.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, with Pastor Denny Bollenbacher, chaplain at Mason Health and Rehab, officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military honors by members of American Legion Post 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
