WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Charles "Chuck" Homer Huffman, 84, formerly of Warsaw, died July 17, 2008, in Winter Haven, Fla.
He was born Feb. 24, 1924, in Nappanee, to Cleo and Anna Huffman. On April 19, 1945, he married Mary Louise Bright, who survives.
After attending Atwood High School, he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943, serving in World War II with Merrill's Marauders in the China, Burma and India theater. He earned a Bronze Star and Purple Heart along with seven additional medals. In 1948, he began working for the U.S. Postal Service, working the the Winona Lake Post Office until he retired to Nalcrest, Fla., in 1985. On Sept. 21, 2001, he received his high school diploma from the Florida Department of Education.
Also surviving are a daughter, Sharolyn (and spouse Marty) Mason, Lakeland, Fla.; two sons, Charles (and spouse Vanessa) Huffman, South Bend, and Michael (and spouse Katrina) Huffman, Traverse City, Mich.; a brother, Marvin Huffman, Warsaw; and a sister, Viola Summy, Warsaw; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was buried in the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla.
