Charges Pending In Case Of Computer Trespass

Posted

Charges are pending against a Warsaw man who allegedly installed a software program on his estranged wife's computer to monitor her activities.

Indiana has a charge of computer trespass in its criminal code book as a Class A misdemeanor, which is punishable by up to one year in prison and a maximum fine of $5,000.

Warsaw Police Department received information from the woman's mother, whose computer also was installed with the unauthorized software. It is not known when or how the software was installed, but a charge of residential entry, a Class D felony, also is being considered against the man.

According to information received by the WPD from a software specialist, this program has the ability to record all Web sites visited, all applications launched and all keystrokes typed. It also has the capability to take periodic screen snapshots and to send a report to the owner of the software as frequently as once every 30 minutes.

The case remains under investigation.
