Charges are pending against the woman accused of robbing Horizon Pharmacy two times in as many weeks.
Cheryl A. Lang, 39, of 412 N. Columbia St., Warsaw, was released Thursday without charges being filed against her because of her poor health. Detective Sgt. Paul Schmitt of the Warsaw Police Department said Lang is under the care of multiple doctors for both mental and physical ailments.
After conferring with both the Kosciusko County sheriff and the nurse at the Kosciusko County Jail, as well as with the prosecutor, Schmitt said, it was decided that Lang shouldn't be jailed at this time. A warrant will be issued for her arrest, with service to take place when Lang is in better health, Schmitt said. She likely will be charged with two counts of robbery as Class C felonies. The offenses are each punishable by prison terms up to eight years and fines up to $10,000.
Lang has lived in the area since January, having moved here from Michigan. Police have not yet learned whether she has a criminal history, but she is not believed to be a flight risk.
Lang was taken into custody inside Horizon Pharmacy (formerly Brennan's Pharmacy) on Market Street in Warsaw shortly after she entered the store and demanded drugs.
About a dozen people, including employees and customers of the pharmacy, were forced into the pharmacy counter waiting area by Lang after she entered the store Thursday morning through a back door. She was wearing a gray trash bag over a bathing suit and had a nylon stocking over her face. She claimed to have a gun under the trash bag, but the transparency of the bag allowed people to see that Lang only had her finger pointed as if it were a gun.
This is the second time Lang entered the store with the intent to rob it. She allegedly robbed the pharmacy on Memorial Day dressed in the same disguise. That robbery was successful, with Lang absconding with about $200 worth of controlled substances, including Valium and Darvocet.
