Charges Pending After Alleged Reckless Driving

Charges are pending against a Tippecanoe woman after a Sunday morning incident of alleged reckless driving.

According to a Warsaw Police Department report, Benjamin Everett Sexton, 23, of Bourbon, was one of several callers to dial 911 about 9:26 a.m. Sunday regarding a man holding onto the hood of a car as the vehicle sped through town.

The difference between Sexton and the other callers was that he was the man on the car and he wanted police to help him in getting the driver - Sexton's estranged wife - to stop the vehicle.

The incident began in the 500 block of East Main Street in Warsaw when Sexton saw his wife's vehicle stopped at a railroad crossing. Sexton told police he approached the vehicle and told his wife, 20-year-old Nichoal Sexton, he wanted to talk to her about their child. She refused to talk with him and Sexton said he sat on a front fender of the car waiting for her to agree to talk.

When the train cleared the crossing, Nichoal Sexton reportedly began driving through town at a high rate of speed, making Sexton hang on to the hood and wipers or risk getting run over. He eventually fell off the vehicle on Zimmer Road when Nichoal Sexton allegedly swerved back and forth quickly in the roadway when making a left-hand turn from Old Road 30.

Sexton suffered scrapes to his hands, forearm and shoulder from the fall. Also, his right foot was reportedly run over by the car. He refused medical attention at the scene.

According to police, Nichoal Sexton is on home detention through Allen County, where officials wanted her detained for a probation violation. She was later located at the Tippecanoe residence where she is temporarily living and was taken into custody by Marshall County authorities. She faces a charge of criminal recklessness with a motor vehicle as a result of Sunday's incident.
