A Warsaw man is facing pending charges of two counts of aggravated battery, criminal confinement and battery after allegedly beating another man with a hammer Dec. 3.
William J. Hamilton, 28, of 606 Walter Way, Apt. H, Warsaw, was arrested Thursday and preliminarlily charged. Information for formal charges was forwarded to the county prosecutor Monday.
According to police reports, a 911 call was received about 9:40 p.m. Wednesday saying a man was at a Warsaw residence battering a man and hitting a woman with a hammer.
The incident began, police were told, when Hamilton came to Brent and Jennifer Rapsavage's Warsaw residence to speak to his ex-girlfriend, Michelle M. Fisher, who was a guest at their home.
Fisher reportedly went outside and sat in a parked car with Hamilton. She allegedly was confined to the car by Fisher and sounded the horn to alert someone she needed help.
The Rapsavages reportedly went outside to assist Fisher and were attacked by Hamilton. Hamilton allegedly attacked Brent Rapsavage, knocking him to the ground. At one point, Hamilton picked up a hammer, using that to hit Rapsavage, police said.
Rapsavage reportedly was able to get into his house, along with the women, but Hamilton allegedly forced his way inside, still hitting Rapsavage with the hammer, and inadvertently hit Jennifer Rapsavage.
The violence was stopped when a neighbor, Kurt Kauffman, came to the Rapsavage residence, tackling Hamilton and holding him until police arrived.
After police arrested Hamilton, he reportedly said he "lost it" and that he deserved punishment for his actions. He also reportedly told police he was supposed to take anti-depression medications, but had ceased taking them.
