A man is facing charges after police allege he pointed a gun at people, including two children, and threatened to shoot them.
Matthew Payne, 48, of 2607 Huffman St., Winona Lake, was formally charged on Monday with two counts of intimidation with a deadly weapon and two counts of pointing a firearm.
A witness told police that he went over to a residence after hearing a child was being threatened. After the witness arrived at the house, Payne came out with a handgun and shot in the air.
Payne pointed the gun at a woman and her two children and told them to leave or he would shoot them, the witnesses told police.
The victims left the residence and called the police.
Officers searched Payne’s car and found a 9mm handgun they believed he used in the incident.
