Scott Bauer wasn’t happy his team lost 1-0 to Carroll Saturday, but if history repeats itself the veteran Warsaw boys soccer coach could be all smiles next month. “I like to think we lose to Carroll in the games that don’t matter,” said Bauer, whose Class 2A second-ranked Tigers fell to 9-1-1 on the season. “We beat Carroll last week, so we know we can beat them, and if history repeats itself, I’m fine with that.” Warsaw, which beat the Chargers 1-0 a week ago in the championship game of the Carroll Tournament, has lost to their counterparts from Huntertown during the regular season the last couple years, but knocked them out of the semistate. “Carroll is a strong side, and we have a lot of respect for them,” said Bauer. “I felt like this was a trap game. We just beat them in their tournament, and it was a lot easier for them to get motivated than us.” Sophomore Zach Tom scored the game’s only goal when he put a shot past Warsaw senior Michael Yantz in the 37th minute. Junior Lucas Capasito assisted on what turned out to be the game-winning goal. It was just the fourth goal the Tigers have given up this season. “We had opportunities too,” said Bauer. “We just didn’t finish.” Warsaw has outscored its 11 opponents by a combined score of 27-4. The Chargers have given up a total of nine goals in 13 games. After scoring against the Tigers, Carroll later went into a pack-it-in style of play and got defensive. In each of the games the Chargers have given up a goal this season they’ve lost. In their nine wins, however, they’ve outscored their opponents 35-0. Warsaw is in action again Tuesday when it travels to Northern Lakes Conference opponent NorthWood.
