Charge Filed After Escape From Home DetentionOn the day she was to be released from home detention, a local woman abandoned her ankle monitor and is now facing a charge of escape.
Katie Lynn Eakright, 31, of 12 N. Long Lane, North Manchester, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 7:20 p.m. Wednesday for escape. Her preliminary bond was set at $5,500.
Court documents filed Dec. 3 list her address as 766 S. Warbler Lane, Warsaw, and the escape charge as a level 5 felony.
On May 15, Eakright was convicted of nonsupport of a dependent child in Kosciusko County. On May 23, she was accepted and hooked up on Kosciusko County Community Corrections (KCCC) home detention program. She was given an ankle monitor and released to KCCC rules of home detention, according to court documents.
She was scheduled to be released from home detention on Nov. 11. KCCC officer Jeanne Thomas was in contact multiple times with Eakright on this day and informed Eakright to come in to KCCC office to be released. She never arrived at the KCCC office, and when Thomas went to the location of Eakright’s ankle monitor, it was found severed and discarded alongside a road.
KCCC staff made multiple attempts to contact Eakright before a warrant was issued for her arrest on Dec. 3.
