Chapman Flotilla Set For July Fourth

Posted

For the third consecutive year residents of Chapman Lakes are going to be treated to a big Fourth of July flotilla and fireworks extravaganza next Saturday.

Under the annual sponsorship of the Chapman Lakes Conservation Club, organizers hope to attract more flotilla entries for the event. Chilly weather and overcast skies in 1997 greatly reduced the number of decorated water conveyances.

The theme for this year's flotilla is "Anything Goes."

Conservation club members are hoping the fireworks display Saturday night will be the best ever. However, donations are running behind last year's total and are still needed, according to Dan Lee, conservation club president.

Lee said persons may contact him regarding donations at 269-7572 or Lewis Bertsch at 269-6577.

Persons interested in participating in the flotilla should go to the conservation club building Saturday, July 4, between the hours of 9 and 10 a.m. to pre-register. The clubhouse is at the intersection of county roads 300N and 325E.

The flotilla will form in the south end of Little Chapman Lake and begin its parade route at 1 p.m. Decorated boats and watercraft will pass along the shore of the little lake, through the channel and completely circle Big Chapman.

Spectators should have excellent viewing from the shores of either lake.

Flotilla winners will be honored at the conclusion of the parade.

Persons with questions about the flotilla should contact Darrell Hicks at 269-3559.

The fireworks show will begin at dark from the west shore of Big Chapman Lake at Osborn's Landing.
