Three new definitions and two exceptions for agricultural districts may be added to the Kosciusko County Zoning Ordinance.
Wednesday, the Kosciusko County Area Plan Commission approved to forward the new definitions and exceptions to the county commissioners for approval. The ordinance amendments will go before the county commissioners at 9:30 a.m. March 22 in the county courthouse, Warsaw.
The definition of agricultural product, if approved, will be "a natural product of a farm, feedlot, confined feeding operation, nursery, grove, orchard, vineyard, garden or apiary. The term includes trees and firewood."
The agricultural product processing definition states "the changing of an agricultural product from its natural from to another form for the purpose of use on site, sale or distribution."
Lastly, the definition of fertilizer sales, processing and storage will be "a use engaged in storage, processing, distribution, manufacturing, warehousing and/or sales of fertilizer products." For purposes of the ordinance, the definition is not intended to be applied on individual farming operations that may be storing fertilizer products for their own application.
The new items added to the list of exceptions for an agricultural district are agricultural product processing and fertilizer sales processing and storage.
