Attendees at this year's Education Summit will notice a change this year from the previous 12 summits.
"We decided to do something different this year," said Joy McCarthy-Sessing, Warsaw/Kosciusko County Chamber of Commerce director. In past years, the summit would include a keynote presentation, school presentations and a group breakout session. This year, area career centers will be showcased through an overview of career and technical education by Bill Kovach and Phil Metcalf, and panel discussions. Kovach is the director for the Warsaw Career Center, and Metcalf is the director for the Wawasee Career Center.
Careers highlighted in the interactive panel discussions by the career centers and their students include culinary arts, co-operative education, health care and welding.
Whitko High School's culinary art students will prepare and serve the breakfast for the summit to showcase their work.
Students involved in the area career centers include students from Warsaw, Wawasee, Whitko, Tippecanoe Valley, Triton and Lakeland Christian Academy.
Education Summit XIII will be Nov. 29 from 7 to 10:30 a.m. at Lakeland Christian Academy, 1093 E. CR 250E, Winona Lake. The theme for the summit this year is "Pathways from High School to Life."
Business persons, educators, and anyone interested in education and how business and education work together in Kosciusko County are invited to attend. The event is a continual collaboration of business and education.
Allyn Decker, Lake City Bank, will serve as moderator for the program. "He does a good job," said McCarthy-Sessing.
Kosciusko Literacy Services will provide an overview of this year's community read program and this year's selected title, "The Great Gatsby."
