Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety approved change orders for the new city hall project on Buffalo Street Friday. The change order was for $19,700. There are a number of doors that the city reused that did not have the appropriate lock set, and there was a need for some insulation under the new deck, according to Jeremy Planner, city planner. The bulk of the change order encompasses unforseen needs arising from the demolition necessary for the installation of the third-floor windows, and the increased electrical need after reducing the HVAC system from four to two roof-top units. There are some smaller network and electrical outlet additions and some minor needs along the roof as demolition and work has started on the roof. The board also approved a $108,350 change order for the completion of the parking lot and plaza at the new city hall. The project will provide additional parking downtown and a fully functional plaza for First Friday events and the farmer’s market, Skinner said. There will be benches along Center Street and within the landscaping area. “It will create a great functional downtown plaza for events and we are excited this will be a part of the city hall project,” Skinner said. The change order also will provide electrical outlets for vendors to use for First Friday and Farmer’s market events. The board approved a $152,424 payment to Harold McComb & Son Inc. for work completed on the city hall through July 31. The board also approved a $6,110 contract with Harold McComb & Son Inc. for repair work for storm damage that occurred to the city hall June 29. There was damage done to the marble and staircase as construction was being completed on the building. Winds got high enough that they blew off some marble and broke a window. The city received $5,110 from the insurance company for the damage. The board also approved a $15.47 per hour salary for Sandra Courson, Warsaw Police Department administrative assistant; Doug Light at $1,904.99 bi-weekly, who moved back to first shift as a WPD patrol officer; Brian Zehring at $1,628.20 bi-weekly, who is at the end of his first-year probation period at Warsaw Fire Department; and Derrick Leake, who received his one-year review as a street laborer and will receive a salary of $13.52 an hour. Linda Sanner will receive $10 an hour for her human resources clerical support salary; Shaun Gardner will receive a $1,620 bi-weekly salary as a maintenance director for the parks department; Staci Young was approved to receive a $20.25-an-hour salary as parks recreation director; and Jamie Overbey was approved to receive a $16.50-an-hour mechanic salary at WPD. Warsaw Human Resources Director Jennifer Whitaker announced Ellen Hoffer has been hired to replace Carol Raisler as an accounts payable clerk. The board approved a $16,873.90 contract with Oakwood Cemetery and Sterling Contracting LLC to begin work on the new cremation garden. Street closures were approved for Tuesday and Wednesday for setting the new radio tower at the Warsaw Fire Station 1. Main Street from the alley west of Station 1 to east of Indiana Street will be closed. Indiana Street will be closed at the intersection of Main and Indiana streets. Canal Street in Warsaw will be closed temporarily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 8 for the Play It Safe Family Safety Day, which is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The board approved closing Indiana, Fort Wayne and Main streets Sept. 22 from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the cubmobile race.
