Targeting Kosciusko County businesses, members of the Warsaw/Kosciusko County Chamber of Commerce are conducting an "Education Compact Blitz" this week.
According to John Ganyard, chairman of the chamber's education steering committee, the purpose of the blitz is to make county businesses aware of the compact and to encourage them to sign it.
"Since the compact was drafted in 1997, we haven't had a major push to have companies sign it," he said. "This is a visible means of making that happen."
The education compact was a result of the Education Summit, and is a statement that business and industry will support education by, among other things, requesting high school transcripts from job applicants, encouraging continuing education and making reasonable efforts to support parents who want to participate in their children's school activities.
So far, Ganyard said, only 13 companies have signed the compact.
"Our goal is to have 100 sign," he said. "The philosophy is to support education."
Approximately 25 volunteers will contact 130 of the chamber's 500 members this week, Ganyard said. "We won't hit them all, but it's a start."
Any companies interested in the Education Compact that are not contacted this week may call the chamber offices at 267-6311.
