SOUTH WHITLEY – The Chain O Lakes Chorus, under the direction of Mark Leimer, assisted by Phil Randall and Dick Sutton, will present an hour performance at the Gazebo in South Whitley Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.
Recognized as the premier men’s acappella singing group in the Whitley County and Kosciusko County areas, the chorus will present classic barbershop favorites and feature several quartets and octets. Members of the Chorus are from South Whitley, Syracuse, North Webster, Warsaw, Winona Lake, Columbia City, Fort Wayne, Huntington and the lakes area north of Pierceton.
Chain O Lakes Chorus is a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society which carries as its motto “Keep the Whole World Singing.” Barbershop music is characterized as having four voice parts, tenor, lead, baritone, and bass, that sing in close harmony without musical instruments accompanying.
The melody is usually sung by the lead with the other voice parts harmonizing to the melody.
This summer these men have sung at Froelinger Theatre in Fort Wayne, in North Webster for “Music in the Park”, in Warsaw for “First Fridays” in addition to many performances by representative quartets.
There are presently 35 members of the chorus. They meet from 7 to 9 p.m. every Tuesday night at the Columbia City Library. All men of good character who like to sing are invited to join them.
