While the Warsaw Parks Department sank a lot of money into the development of Central Park, some of the bricked walkways in the plaza are sinking.
"The ground was fairly unstable to begin with, and while we backfilled the area and were able to get the compaction we anticipated, we did have some additional settling," said Mick Welborn, of Welborn & Associates, project manager for the Central Park project.
According to Larry Plummer, parks director, a contractor has been contacted to give the department an estimate of the cost of repairing the settling, but they have not conducted an inspection yet.
"It appears that the settling has stopped," Plummer said. "So now, we're just looking for someone to come in and re-lay the pavers (bricks)."
Plummer said he did not anticipate the cost of repairing the brick walkways to be prohibitively expensive, but will not know until a thorough inspection can be conducted.
"We don't have an estimate on the exact cost of raising the (sunken) pavers as yet," he said, "but we do have money in this year's budget to make the repairs, depending on how extensive they turn out to be. We may have to go into next year if they are (extensive)."
Plummer said he anticipates the repairs will be completed before the end of this year.
