Central Park Rental Discussed

Posted

In order to maintain the grounds of Central Park during summer concerts and prevent litter problems, the Warsaw Parks and Recreation Board Tuesday discussed new options for renting the area.

After incidents of abundant trash left behind following events at the park, a damage deposit was discussed to leave outside sources responsible for the condition of the grounds during and after events.

The board hopes that the deposit will reduce the department's labor costs associated with Central Park clean up, and will encourage respectable behavior by those renting the park.

The board tabled the issue, requesting more information regarding surrounding parks and damage deposit contracts.

After reviewing proposed budgets for 2006, the board approved estimates in non-reverting funds, cumulative capital and services. Larger projects within the estimates include the Lake City Greenway project, additional blocks in the Downtown Streetscapes project and improvements to the Kelly Park tennis courts.

The board also tabled a request by Scott Tolle to use Lucerin Park for a Medieval Kingdom festival. Tolle had asked to be included on the agenda, but failed to be present for the meeting.

The June 14 installation of a 16-foot-tall clock on the north side of Central Park was reported by the board, and the construction of a new swing set is scheduled for today at Kiddie Park.

Members present at the meeting were Bill Baldwin, Cathy Folk, John Sadler, Toby Sumpter, Robert Richmond and Steve Haines.
