Traffic should be moving normally on the block of Center Street between Lake and Buffalo streets by no later than Wednesday morning - weather permitting.
Asphalt was laid Monday, and the last brick crosswalk was finished that afternoon. Painting for the street lines and parking spaces should be finished today, and once the paint is dry, the street will be open for traffic, public works superintendent Kim Leake said
New park benches, street lights and trash receptacles also have been installed.
Warsaw Councilman Dewey Lawshe said Monday the city is considering using the old street lights that were taken down in the rehab effort for additional lighting in downtown alleys.
Next on the street department's agenda is the block of Center Street between Buffalo and Indiana streets. The project will include excavation and replacement of the water and sewer lines under the street, Leake said.
He said so far the street project is on schedule, with street department employees working on Saturdays and beginning their day at 4 or 5 a.m.
