The Center Lake Conservation Association recently received a grant totaling $15,000 from the Kosciusko County Community Foundation for the removal of sediment.
Sediment contains high concentrations of nitrogen and phosphorus, according to CLCA member Dale Long. The excess nutrients cause undesirable growth of aquatic vegetation and algae. The sediment removal will help control weeds, reduce the need for herbicide, improve water quality and help alleviate flooding.
The CLCA received a $75,000 Indiana Department of Natural Resources Foundation grant and raised $10,000 in public contributions in addition to the Community Foundation grant.
The Community Foundation is a public charity, and gifts made to the Foundation are tax-deductible. For more information, visit www.kcfoundation.org, call 574-267-1901, or visit the office at 102 E. Market St., Warsaw.
