Center Lake Commissions Watershed Study

Posted

Bill Hilliard, president of the Center Lake Conservation Association Inc., announced the association has entered into a contract with V3 Consultants of Woodridge, Ill., for a Center Lake watershed diagnostic study.

Ninety percent of the cost of the project is being funded through a Lakes and Rivers Enhancement grant and the remainder of the costs will be provided by the association.

The project is expected to be complete in 2004 and will cover a wide range of tasks. The study will include, but is not limited to, analysis of trends relating to physical, chemical, biological and habitat factors, watershed land treatment recommendations, non-point source pollution, current extent of wetlands and wetland restoration sites. Also, a lake shoreline erosion and analysis, habitat quality survey and aquatic plant survey will be included in the study.

At least two public meetings will be hosted, the first of which will be held this spring, to identify stakeholders and lake/watershed concerns. The second meeting will present V3's diagnostic study report in 2004.

Hilliard is encouraging community participation in this study of Center Lake.
