U.S. Census workers have been going door-to-door in Kosciusko County since May 1, according to Sgt. Chad Hill of the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department. Hill said census workers are attempting to collect information in person from households that did not respond to mailers and that they have specific addresses to visit. While the census workers in the county are not scammers, any resident wanting to report suspicious persons or activities can call the Sheriff’s Department at 574-267-5667. The U.S. Census Bureau states on its website that census workers will show an identification badge, specify the survey for which they are gathering information and provide a copy of the notification letter previously sent. The field representative will also say approximately how long the survey will take to complete, why the information is important and how the bureau protects the confidentiality of all answers. The nearest Census Bureau contact center is in Jeffersonville and may be reached at 800-523-3205.
