Cemetery Looks To Purchase Computer, Mower

The Oakwood Cemetery Board of Regencies met Thursday to discuss budget plans and the turnout of Memorial Day events.

Projected spending for the board includes replacement of a lawn mower and purchase of a new computer for administrative assistant Diane Grose.

Oakwood plans to replace bushes inside the cemetery because of problems with deer eating the old landscaping. Boxwood bushes will be placed throughout the property in hopes that the wildlife will not destroy the plants over the summer.

The board signed seven property deeds for lots inside the cemetery and have reported laying 40 new foundations since the beginning of the year.

The board discussed the success of the recent Memorial Day service that took place Monday. Ceremonies were directed by the American Legion and the board was happy with the number of people who attended.

One dilemma the board faced was the request to have a headstone transferred on a property lot due to the blockage of two trees planted by the family of the deceased. The board offered to cut down the trees, however the family strongly declined the proposal.

Board members present at Thursday's meeting were Ellen Hoffer, Bob Sandy and Warren Tatter. President Lewis Dobbins was absent.
