AKRON – Cecil E. Shoemaker, 97, Akron, passed away at 4:13 p.m. Sept. 9, 2015, in his residence. He was born Dec. 4, 1917, in Laketon, Wabash County, to Arthur and Anna Gerlach Shoemaker. On Sept. 25, 1937, in Akron, he married Pauline Clark, who preceded him in death Dec. 9, 1986. On Jan. 2, 1988, in Akron, he married Osie Shepherd Hopkins, who survives in Akron. He had been a farmer but he was most known as a self-employed outstanding area electrician. He was a graduate of Gilead High School in 1936. He attended the Akron Church of God for over 30 years. He was a member of the Gilead Lodge first and then the Lincoln Masonic Lodge of Macy and has been a Mason for over 50 years. Also surviving are: a daughter, Kay (and spouse Dean) Hartley, Logansport; two sons, Bill (and spouse Lucy) Shoemaker, Kokomo, and Ron (and spouse Jan) Shoemaker, Florence, S.C.; three stepdaughters: Connie (and spouse Kevin) Jones, Rochester; Carol (and spouse Stan) Mitterling, Akron; and Mary Hall, Winchester, Ky.; two stepsons, Tom Hopkins Jr., and Don (and spouse Beth) Hopkins, Akron; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Homer Shoemaker, a sister, Mary Sundheimer Fites, and a granddaughter, Patty Shoemaker. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Akron Church of God, 301 S. West St., Akron, with Pastor Terry Canfield officiating. Burial is in Athens Cemetery, Athens.
