CCS Gears Up For Annual 'Tools For Schools'

Posted
School begins in just a few weeks, which means it’s time once again for Combined Community Services’ annual Tools for School.

Tools for School provides Kosciusko County students in grades kindergarten to 12th grade with school supplies they need for the upcoming school year but may not otherwise be able to get.

According to Peggi Lisenbee-Wright, CCS director of emergency assistance, CCS still needs funding and donations for the event.

In 2010, Tools for School helped 1,600 students with school supplies.

Fiesta Hair Salon also is teaming up with CCS to provide free back-to-school haircuts during the event. Last year, Fiesta provided about 300 haircuts.

This year, Tools for School will be at the Kosciusko County fair grounds in the Home & Family Arts Building Aug. 10. The event is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., but Lisenbee-Wright said it may go longer if there are still students in need. Anyone who misses the Aug. 10 date may still be able to get supplies at CCS while supplies last.

CCS is still in need of donations of school supplies like backpacks, three-ring binders, spiral notebooks, pens, pencils, erasers, etc.

Monetary donations also are appreciated, and will be used to purchase school supplies. All donations can be mailed or dropped off to CCS, 110 E. Prairie St., Warsaw, IN 46580 through Aug. 8. If mailing a check, be sure to write “Tools for School” in the memo line.

Drop-off barrels for school supplies also are located at the North Webster Church of God, Kiwanis, Masteron Chiropractic and Fiesta.

Tools for School serves all students in Kosciusko County except where an agency already provides school supplies.

To receive school supplies Aug. 10, the child’s name, parents’ names, school where the student attends and home address in Kosciusko County must be provided. Volunteer coordinator Ami Pitt said homeschooled students also can be serviced.

Lisenbee-Wright said CCS thanks all the people and businesses who have already donated.
