CCS Toy Sale Time Is Here AgainWhen the used toys get sold this weekend at the Combined Community Services Toy Time Consignment Sale, it’ll help buy new toys for CCS’s toy giveaway next week.
The public toy sale is from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday in the Home & Family Arts Building at the county fairgrounds. CCS receives 50 percent of the proceeds, which the organization will use to buy new toys for the giveaway, slated for 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Volunteer organizer Ami Pitt said this is the 24th year for the event.
“The biggest contributor is Meijer and the fairgrounds. Meijer donated all the supplies to do the sale with, plus toys. The fairgrounds lets us use this building,” she said.
The giveaway also receives toys from Toys For Tots and American Bikers Aimed Toward Education.
“We cover around 1,700 children,” Pitt said.
By Wednesday, Pitt said they had about 9,600 toys for this weekend’s sale, and several thousand more came in Thursday. Every little toy is counted, and she said it averages about 11,500.
“We’re trying to turn these used toys into new ones,” she said. “The old toys that are not sold also are re-homed.”
Bibles also are handed out to families during the giveaway Tuesday and Wednesday.
“The No. 1 thing we want to give away at the giveaway is Jesus. We offer Bibles and prayer. We want to help in any way we can,” Pitt said.
